Don't Smoke::

Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow. This depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients, such as vitamin A, that are important to skin health. Smoking also damages collagen and elastin — fibers that give your skin its strength and elasticity. In addition, the repetitive facial expressions you make when smoking — such as pursing your lips when inhaling and squinting your eyes to keep out smoke — may contribute to wrinkles.
If you smoke, the best way to protect your skin is to quit. Ask your doctor for tips or treatments to help you stop smoking.

How Much Product To Use

How Much Product To Use

Facial Moisturizer:

The right size: Two peanuts
Application tip: Moisturizer has the big responsibility of making your skin smooth. To apply it, wash your face, and while your skin is moist (not wet), massage on a peanut-size amount of moisturizer with glycerin. Use a second peanut-size portion to hydrate your neck. When skin is damp, moisturizer seeps into the surface better. And glycerin traps moisture in your cells.

Sun Screen:
The right size: Three grapes

Application tip: Divide your body into three sections, and use at least a grape-size amount of sunblock on each. Rub the first blob onto your feet and legs, then squeeze out another grape-size portion to cover your torso and back. Use the last grape of sunscreen on your arms, neck, and face. You can't use too much sunscreen, so if you're tall or broad, slather on a few extra grapes' worth of SPF. Reapply every two hours.

Eye Cream:
The right size: A pea
Application tip: Scoop out a pea-size amount and pat a fourth of the cream under your lower lashes from outer to inner corner. This motion helps disperse the fluid that causes under-eye puffiness. Above your eye, the drainage runs in the opposite direction, so dab another fourth from crease to brow bone, going from inner to outer corner. Repeat on the other eye with the remaining half pea of eye cream.

Ashley's Top 10 Skin Tips

Ashley's Top 10 Skin Tips

  • Protect yourself from the sun -- use sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight between the hours of 10 and 2.

  • Don't -- I repeat -- don't smoke. Your skin is a large organ and it needs a lot of circulation. Smoking impairs that dramatically. That's why smokers' skin looks dull and gray. Instead of having oxy-generated blood delivered to the surface of the skin, they're getting poisons and oxidants.

  • Get adequate rest and nutrition.

  • Protect yourself from stress -- both emotional and environmental stress.

  • Wash your face twice a day and put on the proper treatment product. I'm amazed when women tell me they don't wash their face in the morning. A lot of icky stuff collects overnight -- dead skin cells, dirt, and dust!

  • Don't neglect certain areas of the skin. Elbows, heels, neck, and decolletage need moisturizing, and your scalp and the tops of your feet need sun protection.

  • Touch your face less and wash your hands more! Don't get too surgical on yourself. It's very tempting to pick, poke, squeeze, and scratch in front of the mirror. But the more you traumatize the skin, the greater your risk of scarring. Apply treatment products and let them work.

  • Keep your makeup clean. Replace the sponges in your compact on a regular basis. Now and then, toss the whole works and start fresh -- the average shelf life for cosmetics is 6 to 12 months. Don't buy products so expensive that you'll be heartbroken if you have to throw them away. {Buy mark.-- cheaper than most drugstores and SO much better}

  • Exercise moderation. More is not always better. Moisturizer, for example, is the most overused product in America. We've been bamboozled by cosmetic companies into thinking every square inch of our body has to be slathered. And it's simply not true. Exfoliators are another thing to be careful with. Used too often, they overacidify and irritate your skin.

  • Beware of counter girls. If it were up to them, you'd be in the bathroom for two and a half hours each morning -- putting 80 layers on your face. Keep your regimen simple. And when you do add a new product, do it gradually so your skin has time to adjust. Each skincare product has an average of 20 to 40 ingredients -- you're introducing 20 to 40 potential allergens to your face every time you try something new.
  • Top 10 Skin Myths

    TOP 10 SKIN MYTHS

Here's a little-known secret: You're not just born with great skin. Having a flawless complexion has more to do with how you treat your skin than having good genes. So why don't more of us have glowing complexions? It's simple: We believe skincare myths that prevent us from really getting the gorgeous skin we want. Well, not anymore.

Myth #1-- Your skin will age just like your Mom's.
The reality: Sure, genetics play a role in how your skin looks, from the size of your pores to its texture and color. But banking on aging like your mom or grandmother is a big mistake. Habits make more of a difference than genetics. The biggest culprit in aging is sun exposure, and your drinking, smoking, stress, and sleep habits play a role, too. Skipping sunscreen, imbibing too often, coping ineffectively with stress, and sleeping on your side or stomach can all exacerbate and create wrinkles, adult acne, and texture changes.

Myth #2-- The SPF number tells you how much protection you're getting from the sun.
The reality: There are two types of damaging sun rays: UVA, which are responsible for aging the skin; and UVB, which are responsible for burning it. The SPF number on a bottle of sunscreen only gives a guide for how much UVB protection the product offers. It doesn't tell you whether or not the product protects from UVA rays (which are also responsible for melanoma).

Myth #3-- You need a separate sunscreen and moisturizer.
The reality: Sunscreens already add moisture to your skin because of their ingredients. So if you have oily skin, you may want to skip the separate moisturizer. For those who prefer to wear both products, apply the moisturizer first; allow to dry, then apply the sunscreen. Either way, be sure to wear sunscreen daily: Every day is sun day, even if it's cloudy or overcast.

Myth #4-- Most of the sun damage you incur happens before you're 18.
The reality: Recent studies have shown that by age 18, you've only accumulated 18 to 23 percent of the sun damage you'll incur over a lifetime. That means that there's still time to protect your skin from the sun and put off sun-induced aging. Do this by using sunscreen and products with sun-damage reversing ingredients such as vitamin C and retinol.

Myth #5-- There are creams that can turn back time for your skin.
The reality: There's no such thing as a miracle in a bottle. As you age, your facial bones shrink, you lose fat under the skin, and your skin begins to become loose. Rubbing on a cream isn't going to address these things. What's more, cosmetic skincare products cannot, by FDA law, include medications, which are the only things that truly change the structure of the skin. What cosmetic creams can do: Temporarily plump up and hydrate your skin. For the best chance at turning back time, see your dermatologist for medications or procedures.

Myth #6-- If your skin is sensitive to a specific ingredient, cut that ingredient out of your regiment.
The reality: Just because you react to a good ingredient in one formulation doesn't mean you'll have the same response to another formulation. Effective cosmetic skincare ingredients like AHAs, salicylic acid, and retinol can be irritating. If you try a product containing one of these ingredients, start slowly to allow your skin time to adjust. If, after two weeks, you still notice irritation, try another product containing the ingredient. You may find that a different mix will agree with your skin.

Myth #8-- The bumps you get on your adult skin aren't acne.
The reality: They might not be the same pimples you had when you were a teenager, but they're still acne. Thank the natural decrease in estrogens/increase in androgens we experience as we age, plus our increasingly stressful lifestyles, for this common condition. To stave off adult acne, you need a consistent, full-face regimen containing gentle but effective acne fighters; such as mark.'s Calming Effect Comforting Milk Cleanser.

Myth #9-- Spot-treatments are your best bets for pimples.
The reality: A pimple can take weeks to form under the skin, so while you're treating the one that's currently visible with a spot treatment, you're neglecting the ones that will pop up in the future. Swear by a preventative, full-face regimen to stop pimples before they even begin to form.

Myth #10-- Stick with only products that have worked well for you in the past.
The reality: Our bodies change as we age -- so why shouldn't our skin? Sticking to the same old products as your skin changes doesn't make sense. The products cease to be effective if your skin needs shift and you could also be missing out on new technologies and ingredients that will better suit your current needs. Don't be afraid to experiment!
